Bristol Bar and Grille

What hasn’t been said about this Louisville landmark? You know it, you love it (or maybe you hate it, I dunno). Even with the stink that came out a couple of months ago, the Highlands location was packed full Friday afternoon as my office-mates and veggie friend (who probably needs an alias now as well…we’ll call him Harry) paid our old stand-by another visit.

We started with the obligatory Green Chile WonTons and the Fried Artichokes (of which I didn’t partake). I think we witnessed a first in the history of Louisville: the waitress took the basket the wontons were served in, and there was one left. ONE LEFT? Unbelievable.

The bread they bring out could be some of the best around. I love those oddly-shaped things. More butter, please!

One thing we noticed is the decor in the Highlands location. It seems the last re-design was when The A-Team ruled primetime. All that’s missing is a couple of Nagel paintings – nail salon style. The art posters and wall colors both seem a bit dated. Their website seems to need an update as well. I mean, this is a Louisville institution we’re talking about here.

Jam and I had the Teresa’s Sweet Chili Linguini with Blackened Chicken. Delicious as usual. Harry ordered the Mid-East Grilled Cheese – spinach, mushroom and havarti served like a quesadilla. He thought it was a bit cheesy, but I say that’s what you should get when you order a grilled cheese, Harry! Ricky ordered the Chicken sandwich, which he left no trace of at the end of the meal. I think he enjoyed it.

The service was good, which is kind of surprising for this location. It seems most of the employees there are a bit cranky. Maybe that’s changed. Let’s hope so.

I haven’t been to any of the Bristol branches in several years. I’ve got a gathering I’m going to do downtown on Tuesday though and there’s a plan to “adjourn to the Bristol” for further discussions and food. I’m curious to see how I feel about the Bristol these days. I used to think it was fantabulous but I haven’t been compelled to go there as I said, in many years.

ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO WE HAD RESEVATION AT THE BRISTOL ON THE U OF L CAMPUS. THERE WERE 10 OF US. WE PUT 2 TABLES TOGETHER {EVEN THOUGH ,WE NEEDED 3}. AND EVERYONE ORDERED DIFFERENT ITEMS. I ORDERED FISH AND CHIPS. THE FISH WAS GREAT {FRESH AND COOKED PERFECTLY}! BUT, THE FRIES WERE THOSE SKINNY SHOESTRING FRIES. VERY DISAPPOINTING. EVERYONE ORDERED SOMETHING W/ FRIES. AND EVERYONE WAS UPSET ABOUT THEM. AND FOR DESSERT MY FRIENDS ALL ORDERED DERBY PIE {WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE REALLY GOOD}. MYSELF, WANTING TO BE DIFFERENT, ORDERED LEMON CHEESECAKE. BIG MISTAKE, IT WAS OLD. IT HAD CRACKS IN IT, LIKE IT HAD BEEN THERE FOR AWHILE! OF COURSE I SENT IT BACK AND GOT THE DERBY PIE!
