Conez and Coneyz

A late-comer to the Louisville Hot Dog Wars of 2008, Conez and Coneyz really holds its own adding great quality hot dogs and amazingly creamy ice cream to the mix. They opened this Summer at a great location on Frankfort Avenue near Bayly Ave (near Heine Brothers) and from what I heard while talking to one of the über-friendly owners, had a great reception during the warmer months. Based on their quality, the winter months should keep them busy as well!

Save Ray Parella’s!!!

Ray Parella's
A good buddy of mine (who also took that nice panorama) just sent an email saying that Ray Parella’s on Frankfort might have to shut it’s doors soon. Help keep this AWESOME Italian restaurant OPEN!!! Go there tonight!!!

From Chris:

I just sent an email to Michelle Jones about this & figured I’d send the same to you.  Ray Parellas on Frankfort Ave is closing due to the economy.  If you’ve never been there its an awesome little family run italian restaurant, a Louisville original.  I’m trying to help them a bit by spreading the word, which is where LouisvilleLunch comes in.  Ray’s has a great lunch menu. I used to eat there quite a bit for lunch.

This is what I sent to Michelle…

My wife & dined there tonight as we have for close to ten years now only to hear the waitress (Ray’s grand daughter) mention that the economy is forcing them to close  their doors.  We talked for a bit and it sounds like they still have some fight left in them but it’s not looking good.  I’ve tried to spread the word a bit via Facebook but I thought a mention on Consuming could do nothing but help.

J. Gumbo’s

Although this is technically a chain restaurant (and we don’t review chains here…we all know what they taste like), this place (formerly Gumbo-a-Go-Go) started here and it’s still kinda small, unlike the taste and portions of this cajun fast-casual restaurant.

Genny’s Diner & Pub

SUBTITLE: Mmmmm Good.

When I first moved to Louisville about 12-13 years ago, there was a commercial that ran on late-night cable that made a lasting impression on me. If you’re from around here, you definitely know what I’m talking about. If not, please allow me to reminisce about this commercial that is sooo bad it’s good: […]

North End Café

Last week, I was wanting a really good burger. If you’ve been reading here long, that’s not a surprise to you. Nothing like a good cheeseburger to ease the pain. Jam and I debated on going to BBC, but I’d be too tempted to get one of their excellent beers. Beer and lunch are one sure way to get nothing done the rest of the day. Then, I realized we hadn’t reviewed North End Cafe. Away we went.

This is probably one of the best breakfasts in town. Their lunch ain’t half bad either. Come to think of it, it’s a good place for dinner and drinks as well. What can’t this place do?

Crave Café

Hit & Miss

After a battle of cabin fever from the snow, we were all excited to have a beautiful sunny day to explore a new lunch spot. After some discussion we decided to try Crave Café at 2250 Frankfort Avenue. We had high expectations for this small, but inviting café. I had The Guido, a grilled chicken & pesto sandwich on a ciabatta bread, a cup of chicken artichoke soup and a side of bleu cheese slaw. The sandwich was average, while the soup seemed to be lacking. The combination of the vinegar dressing and blue cheese on the slaw was a bit overwhelming for my taste buds. […]

Bussman’s Bakery

Jam’s on this new diet, where he has to get dessert after lunch. It’s kinda fun, you should try it.

As we passed Bussman’s Bakery on our way to the Beer Depot, Jam mentioned that this (along with like 5 other bakeries in town) was the best bakery in Louisville. We figured we’d stop on the way back. I mean, it’s the best, right? You can’t not go… […]

Frankfort Ave. Beer Depot (FABD Smokehouse)

FABD ParkingThere are quite a few things I’m passionate about in this mortal coil, and here are but three: Barbecue, Beer and Ping-Pong (yep, I call it ping-pong, I’m not one of those ‘Table Tennis” purists). So, if you’re expecting a bad review of FABD, you’ve come to the wrong food blog, my friend. […]
