City Café

As much as it pains me to say this, I’ve never been a big fan of this “Keep Louisville Weird”, WFPK-supporting restaurant. It’s always just been kinda “meh” everytime I’ve been there. I typically get the Club, and while good, it’s just a Club (no offense!). The times, they are a-changing, folks. My last visit made me want to write a ravin’ review… […]

Side Street Grill * Pizza * Pub (Formerly: Deli at Douglass Loop)

Located on Dundee Road on the Douglass Loop in the Highlands, the Deli has had a kind of identity crisis. My wife and I went to this place opening week a couple years (?) ago. It’s right in our neighborhood, and we were excited to have a nice coffee shop/restaurant/waterin’ hole nearby. Within those couple of years, they’ve acquired a liquor license (beer only), gotten rid of the espresso drinks (I imagine it’s hard to compete with the 800 Lb. Gorilla that is Heine Brothers), and are now refocusing their efforts once again. With the name “Deli”, people mostly thought of it as just a place with a few sandwiches, but owner Trent Pehlke is trying to get the word out about how much more this little gem of a restaurant really is. They have recently rebranded themselves as “Side Street Grill * Pizza * Pub”, which I think will bring more people in the door to experience this diverse menu. […]

Crave Café

Hit & Miss

After a battle of cabin fever from the snow, we were all excited to have a beautiful sunny day to explore a new lunch spot. After some discussion we decided to try Crave Café at 2250 Frankfort Avenue. We had high expectations for this small, but inviting café. I had The Guido, a grilled chicken & pesto sandwich on a ciabatta bread, a cup of chicken artichoke soup and a side of bleu cheese slaw. The sandwich was average, while the soup seemed to be lacking. The combination of the vinegar dressing and blue cheese on the slaw was a bit overwhelming for my taste buds. […]

DeVino’s Deli

Settled in the middle of all the condos (who’s buying those things, anyway??) being built in downtown Louisville is DeVino’s Deli. Jam and I went there last week to get one of their HUGE slices of pizza. It really is some of the best New York style pizza in town. They also have a good selection of deli (and warm) sandwiches. […]

Lotsa Pasta

So, this review wasn’t with the normal LouisvilleLunch office crew, it was with my lovely family (2 daughters and my wife). After a day of running around town, my wife had her heart set on Lotsa Pasta’s great deli. She’s been going there a lot lately.

One of my favorite parts about this place, is that you can grab whatever you want off the grocery shelves to go along with your lunch. We got some tortilla chips and salsa (of which they had samples of). Normally we get some crackers and some of their Gorgonzola and Garlic Cream Cheese Dip (which is making my mouth water just typing it). […]
