Macca’s- A Florida Grill

For months I have heard about what good food and music is available at Macca’s at night. I figured if that many people are singing its praises, I should check it out. If the food is fantastic at night, then logic would have it that it should be the same during the day.

Kaelin’s is now Mulligan’s Pub and Grill

Driving by the old place known as Kaelin’s (birthplace of the cheeseburger), I noticed some people sitting out on the patio eating. I got excited thinking the rumors of renovations were true. Maybe they were true, but now the restaurant on the corner of Speed Ave. and Newburg Road is now known as “Mulligan’s Pub and Grill”. Stay tuned while we check it out.

Cumberland Brewery

My sister and I had our dinner at Cumberland Brews early on a Friday evening. We opted to sit inside and in the narrow downstairs area. After we were seated all of the tables were filled and it felt busy but never chaotic. […]

Captain’s Quarters

This time of year everyone knows that Captain’s Quarters has the best out door eating area in the city, even better if you are a boater in need of the nosh. I think most people forget it can also be a nice place to have lunch during the week, if you have several hours to spare.

The only thing that moves fast on the Ohio are the boats.

Shiraz

Editor’s Note: Everyone please put your hands together for our new LouisvilleLunch.com blogger, Molly! She answered the call for lunch review bloggers and after looking at her site, we knew she would fit right in here. Maybe even teach us a trick or two about writing. So, take it away, Molly! Welcome aboard!

I have to admit as my first review for LouisvilleLunch.com-I played it safe.  I have been to the Shiraz on Hurstbourne before, but this was a new adventure out to the location off English Station Road.  It is a little off the corporate beaten path, but people who work in the Blankenbaker cooridor are better off heading this way for lunch than Hurstbourne Parkway. City Café

As much as it pains me to say this, I’ve never been a big fan of this “Keep Louisville Weird”, WFPK-supporting restaurant. It’s always just been kinda “meh” everytime I’ve been there. I typically get the Club, and while good, it’s just a Club (no offense!). The times, they are a-changing, folks. My last visit made me want to write a ravin’ review… […]

Side Street Grill * Pizza * Pub (Formerly: Deli at Douglass Loop)

Located on Dundee Road on the Douglass Loop in the Highlands, the Deli has had a kind of identity crisis. My wife and I went to this place opening week a couple years (?) ago. It’s right in our neighborhood, and we were excited to have a nice coffee shop/restaurant/waterin’ hole nearby. Within those couple of years, they’ve acquired a liquor license (beer only), gotten rid of the espresso drinks (I imagine it’s hard to compete with the 800 Lb. Gorilla that is Heine Brothers), and are now refocusing their efforts once again. With the name “Deli”, people mostly thought of it as just a place with a few sandwiches, but owner Trent Pehlke is trying to get the word out about how much more this little gem of a restaurant really is. They have recently rebranded themselves as “Side Street Grill * Pizza * Pub”, which I think will bring more people in the door to experience this diverse menu. […]

North End Café

Last week, I was wanting a really good burger. If you’ve been reading here long, that’s not a surprise to you. Nothing like a good cheeseburger to ease the pain. Jam and I debated on going to BBC, but I’d be too tempted to get one of their excellent beers. Beer and lunch are one sure way to get nothing done the rest of the day. Then, I realized we hadn’t reviewed North End Cafe. Away we went.

This is probably one of the best breakfasts in town. Their lunch ain’t half bad either. Come to think of it, it’s a good place for dinner and drinks as well. What can’t this place do?

Toast on Market

Ricky decided to head out with Jam and I today for lunch. Before we left, we made a list of possible places for us to vote on:

  • Toast on Market
  • Market on Market (trend here??)
  • Irish Rover
  • Artemesia

Toast was the last one mentioned (by Ricky) and we all excitedly agreed. Breakfast for lunch or dinner (and even breakfast!) is always a good thing for me. The place was packed and we had to wait about 10 minutes. Not bad for a Tuesday afternoon. […]
