Sitar Indian Restaurant

This place has generated quite a bit of Highlands buzz. Is Bardstown Road ready for another Indian place? And one with a daily buffet, unlike Kashmir’s weekend-only all-you-can-eat dining (UPDATE: Kashmir now has a daily buffet)? Exciting! But will it take over the long-standing rein of one of Sammy’s favorite Bardstown Road eateries? Read on…

Well, enough suspense: It’s not as good. End of review.

What's the best Indian restaurant in Louisville?

Kidding about that end of review thing, but no, I don’t think it’ll topple Kashmir. It’s definitely good, and I wish them luck. Competition will only make both places stronger.

My veggie friend and I visited around 1pm and the place was packed. There was also a very large group of Indians that seemed to enjoy the food. That’s a good sign, I guess.

My first trip, I piled my plate with some Naan, Onion Fritters, Chicken Tikka Masala, Rice, and some other type of chicken whose name escapes me (which is why I need to stay on top of these dern reviews). The naan was great, fluffy and tasty. The Tikka Masala was a bit bland, which I assume because it’s on a buffet and not everyone likes the spice like I do. The second trip around, I found the hot sauce. That made ALL the difference in the world! Good stuff!

Harry likes the place so much that he was overjoyed when I recommended it. He went with his better-half and his brother and his wife the week it opened,  and his brother and sister-in-law had to return the next day. Harry and his wife said that they have a new favorite Indian restaurant. Meh. I’m not giving them a bad review, but maybe I need to try again.

Dude. Sitar is so, so good. But beyond the food being good you don’t have to deal with the surliness that is par for the course at Kashmir. More than once I’ve gotten the impression that the staff at Kashmir would rather stab me in the eye than have to serve me food.

Hmmm…They’re always friendly to me at Shalimar.

Being of indian descent, I’m always looking for a place that reminds me of a solid home-cooked meal. Of all the Indian restaurants in Louisville, Sitar does the best job ot doing so. I believe it is the best Indian restaurant in Louisville, hands down. Combine this with the location, it is about as good as it gets this side of Devon Street in Chicago.

Hands down, the best Indian restaurant in Louisville. Good food + good customer service. Blows Kashmir out of the water.

Sitar is the best Indian restuarant in Louisville. They have awesome food and great customer service unlike the other Indian restuarants in Louisville.Their food is fresh and the waitors can speak english, WAHOO!!! Sharlimar has good service but their food tastes like it’s been on the buffet for 5 days.Don’t go on a Monday to Sharlimar coz they’ll serve you Sundays buffet. And Kashmir has the worse service any restuarant can give and whats up with the coke in the can?

Love this place, nice service, nice surroundings and great food. This beats Kashmir for me and several friends.

My review still stands, Kashmir wins! Sorry ev’ryone. I think the staff at Sitar has NO personaility, and Kashmir has always been friendly. Plus, the food has more flavor that Sitar.

To each his own, I guess.

We like Sitar’s nan so much more than Kashmir’s but the food at K has more spice than Sitar. Sitar’s buffet is better. On a nice Friday night, we don’t even try Kashmir b/c it’s always slammed so in that sense the service @ Sitar is better but I haven’t seen them slammed like Kashmir yet. I still would choose Kashmir over Sitar and Shalimar!
