Luigi’s Pizzeria & Pasta – Italian Week!

I’m going to dub this “Italian Week at LouisvilleLunch.com”. Tonight’s Wednesday, and we’ve been to 3 italian places for lunch this week. WhatsaMattah with Us-ah? Ok, I promise never to say (or type) that again. Geesh.

So, Luigi’s…man, oh man. Jam recommended this place for lunch, and I was more than willing to try it. He’s been there a couple times and raved about it.

He suggested one of the Calzones, since he got the last piece of the stuffed pizza (dough on top and bottom and filled with toppin’s). I went with the N.Y. Roll ($6.45), which is Sausage, Pepperoni and Mozzarella. It was served with a side of Pizza sauce. This thing was excellent! The dough they use is almost flaky and tasted buttery (sorry, arteries!). The sausage (and there was a lot of it) was just spicy enough and had a great texture. The mozzarella was hidden in about every other bite, and was always a nice surprise. I could have eaten two! If Hot Pockets got a hold of this recipe, I’d pick those sumbitches up every day for lunch.

What's the best pizza in Louisville?

The calzone looked a bit small, and I was starving, so I picked up a bag of chips to go with it. They also serve sandwiches, some great looking pasta dishes, and NY style pizza slices. A side note…I love that they call their “supreme” pizza the “Garbage Pizza”.

Next time I go, I’m going to have to get some pasta.

One recommendation: I’d love to see a buffet! I’d be a regular for sure…
